This type of photography can be undertaken anywhere, but a professional photographic studio is likely to better equipped to produce professional portraits. A portrait photographer is a specialist but often will carry out wedding photography and commercial photography.
WHAT IS A PORTRAIT?
A portrait is defined as a likeness of a person, especially of the person's face. A photographic portrait is understood to be a good quality image that not only captures a person's physical likeness on film, but also something of the person's character, generally in a manner that is attractive and pleasing to the subject.

Children and pets do not generally sit still so it is a case of capturing the ‘moment' when it happens. This takes forward planning by the photographer. It is no good if he / she is fumbling with films, lighting or batteries just when the perfect pose presents itself. A good photographer will know this.
