Photographers Directory for a Photographer local to you.
How do you find the right photographer for your needs?
Here are the things you should be looking for and questions you should ask yourself and the photographer
- First and foremost – look at their work
- Don't be afraid to ask for references
- Then you need to know if they will ‘suit' you and mix with ease at the event you have planned. Are they too brusque, too loud or too retiring?
- Do they take the type of pictures that you want – posed or reportage (capturing the event as it unfolds journalistic-style). Or do you want a more artistic approach which could be described as a combination of journalistic techniques with a sense of style and aesthetics so that the moment is captured without losing their sense of composition.
- Their skills in the area of taking sharp fully focused or softer pictures must be explored
- How will they present their finished work for your inspection – contact sheets, on DVD?
How do you get the photographs you want?
The photographer does not know what your preferences are. He/she does not know who or what is most important at your event. If he/she is not fully briefed then you will get beautiful photos of the people and scenes he thinks look good. So a pretty guest or a cute child that catches his eye will attract his attention (who may or may not be important guests). Then he may be approached by your guests who may see the opportunity of getting their own personal pictures. So how do you avoid this?
- Make a list and very specific about who what and where
- Advise your photographer of any really important or special-types of photographs you require.
- Assign someone who knows your guests as the photographer's assistant at the event so they can guide him to right people at the right time.
- Get any posed shots done early in the event so that everyone is fresh and looking their best
Remember - when all the fuss has died down and you are back in your daily routine your photographs will help you re-live your treasured memories.
